Quorn
Quorn is a small country town of approximiately 1500 people nestled in the Southern Flinders Ranges. It is known as the capital of and the gateway to
the Flinders Ranges. Quorn was once a thriving railway town and was the hub of the North/East/West railway lines. In it's early days, it was larger than
Port Augusta.
The original Ghan railway line passed through Quorn, and in the war years, Quorn became famous for its provision of meals, prepared by the country
womens association, for the troops passing through on their way to Darwin.
The original narrow gauge railway line that was once the Ghan line has been restored between Quorn and Port Augusta by the Pichi Richi Railway
Preservation Society who now run vintage steam and diesel trains for tourist trips.
