While Quorn is a small country town, there is certainly no shortage of places to visit during your stay in Quandong Apartments.

Art Galleries

Junction Art Gallery: Situated within the old National Australia Bank building after previously being located 16kms out of the town, this gallery features over 300 paintings, wood sculptures, photos, memorabilia, gem stones, etc. Ph: (08) 8648 6470.
Sue's Studio: Home to the works of award winning artist Sue Hatch, and also featuring craft works by Polly & Andrew Smart and Tom Baxter. Located in the old Salvation Army Hall on Seventh Street. Ph: (08) 8648 6765.
Carina Turner's Studio: Situated on First Street, this gallery features some strange yet wonderful pieces, including paintings prints, post cards and leadlight work. Ph: (08) 8648 6355.



Other Sights
Pichi Richi Railway: Once one of the main transport methods for passengers and provisions alike during the war, the Pichi Richi Railway has been restored to accommodate visiting tourists on brief yet memorable trips along the train line.
Pichi Richi Railway Workshop Museum: After enjoying a ride on one of the steam or diesel trains, take a stroll through the history books and find out about the development of the train line over the years.
Magnificent Flinders Ranges: Quorn is the gateway to the wonderful Flinders Ranges, the States largest mountain range, stretching over 430kms. This magnificent range is full of interesting places to see and visit.


The area surrounding Quorn also holds many attractions and places of interest for you to tour (either self-guided or guided) whilst on your holiday in the peaceful town.


Scenic Drives
Warren Gorge: 20 minutes north of Quorn, this scenic reserve is perfect for a daytrip. One of several small gorges in the area, Warren Gorge is most famous for being one of the few remaining homes of the Yellow-Footed Rock-Wallaby.( Click here for gallery.)
Waukarie Falls: Usually dry, but still beautiful, these semi-circular falls, situated at the top-end of Richmond Valley, are the perfect picnic spot and are part of the Heysen Trail.
Gunyah Scenic Drive: This scenic drive will take you through Horrock's Pass towards nearby town Wilmington, passing by Hancock's Lookout.
Self-guided 4WD Tours: Once in the town, enquire about suggestions for some spots to take your 4WD vehicle to enjoy the outback!

Walks
Heysen Trail: Visit www.heysentrail.asn.au for details.
Devils Peak: One of the most prominent landmarks in the area, the Devils Peak walking trail will take you through Richmond Valley and up the peak itself. (Click here for gallery.)
Dutchmans Stern: A popular hiking trail (approx. 10.5kms - about 5hrs walk) goes up the ridge of Dutchmans Stern, offering many picturesque views of Quorn, Port Augusta, and the neighbouring regions. (Click here for gallery.)
Mount Brown: The largest mountain in the area, there are many walks on different parts of Mount Brown ranging from short to full day walks.
Historic Town Walk: This walk, set up by the local council, will take you by many of the feature landmarks within the town itself and is a great way to get a bit of a feel for the history of Quorn.


Day Trips
Alligator Gorge: Just outside of nearby town Melrose, this gorge is easily accessible to visitors. Featuring many short walks, picnic areas, accommodation for 8-10 people, and other facilities, this is a great place to spend a day before heading back to Quorn.
Melrose: The oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, Melrose is situated at the base of Mount Remarkable. Within the town there are many interesting places to visit.
Hawker: Another town full of history, Hawker is the closest town to Wilpena Pound and used to be part of the original Ghan rail line.
Wilpena Pound: A natural ampitheatre shaped by the elements over the years, this is one the most popular tourist attractions in the Flinders Ranges.
Parachilna Gorge: This gorge is well known for amazing scenery and it's spectacular coloured flowers during the spring.
Brachina Gorge: One of the few remaining homes of the Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby, Brachina Gorge is home to a self-guided walk which will put on display its 130million year old natural formations.
Moralana Scenic Drive: This scenic drive connects the Wilpena and Leigh Creek roads and is full of spectacular scenery, featuring Wilpena Pound, Elder Range, Black Gap Lookout, and more.
